Os Globos do boicote - "The Power of the Dog" e "West Side Story" ganham edição discreta e privada

A associação de imprensa estrangeira em Hollywood (HFPA) anunciou na passada madrugada os vencedores dos seus prémios anuais. Sem transmissão televisiva, num evento privado e sem celebridades, "The Power of the Dog", de Jane Campion, recebeu o Globo de Ouro nos filmes dramáticos e "West Side Story" do lado das comédias e musicais. Nas representações dramáticas, Nicole Kidman ganhou entre as atrizes pelo papel em "Being the Ricardos", e Will Smith foi considerado o melhor ator masculino por "King Richard". Os melhores atores numa comédia, ou musical, foram Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), e Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick … Boom!). "Encanto", foi julgada a melhor longa-metragem de animação.

Entre os realizadores, o Globo foi para Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog).

"Sucession" e "Hacks" ganharam os Globos no lado das séries de televisão.

A HFPA passa por uma crise que teve início após a publicação de um artigo no Los Angeles Times em fevereiro 2021, expondo a falta de ética, transparência e diversidade da associação. O grupo de jornalistas foi alvo de boicote por parte das principais agências de talentos e respetivos clientes, que recusam participar em eventos da HFPA até serem efetuadas mudanças profundas no seu funcionamento e composição. Ao mesmo tempo, a NBC decidiu suspender a emissão em direto dos Globos de Ouro. A nova vaga de COVID fez o resto e os promotores acabaram por reduzir a cerimónia, normalmente a segunda mais importante na temporada de prémios de cinema nos EUA, a um pequeno encontro privado. As consequências de tudo isto, e se os Globos voltarão à sua anterior glória, só serão visíveis no próximo ano.
